On a peninsula on Maryland’s Eastern Shore lies Poplar Grove, owned by a family whose ancestors were granted the estate by Lord Baltimore in 1669. This summer, a team of researchers is delving into the history of the place and its inhabitants, through papers that have lain unread for generations, stashed in attics and outbuildings. The Poplar Grove Project is sponsored by the Maryland State Archives and the C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience at Washington College.
