My Great-Grandfather Emory came to Long Island from Maryland about the time of the Civil War. Over the years there has been family mention of Poplar Grove, but I don't know how closely connected we are to the owners. I'll follow the unforlding story with great interest.

TExtremely interesting and priceless! It takes one's breath away to realize that so many hi-storical events can be relived in this 21st century because of these preservations!! I will follow with bated breath! Many thanks!

I am a Phila.area Emory. My father, Morris, grew up in Baltimore and his mother Lucy used to tell of visits to Poplar Grove and the Emory Plantation days. My wife and I made a stop there in April of 2002 and were shown around the house by James Wood. It is interesting what is coming out of there now. There are head stones in the family grave yard that go way back, too. Rob/Rosemont

My direct line ggg grandfather was General William Hemsley Emory (1811-1887)and the last in my line to be born at Poplar Grove. I have been to Poplar Grove several times and am very excited that these documents have been found, and will be preserved for future generations. I am actively researching the Emory family and can be reached at aemory@comcast.net.
Thanks - Ann Hemsley Emory - Seattle

Very exciting! I have been researching my great-grandmother, who was a Denton, whose mother was a Hemsley. The names Emory, Tilghman and Lloyd have surfaced but I have been unable to connect the dots from 1800-1876. I will be following this with anticipation.
